Now that all the seminars, networking, and celebratory happy hours have ended, I’d like to take a few minutes to share my favorite moments from Philly Tech Week 2019…
The Pennovation Center put on a dazzling display of robotics innovation. Ghost Robotics shared an audience friendly demonstration filled with stunning videos and learnings. This was followed by a series of student presentations and even more robots! I learned there are two different primary gaits (types of walking) in the animal world, and then observed these gaits being replicated by the robots. A key takeaway is that emulating nature and its wonders is a great way to think about your tech.
Here’s a video showing one of the robots who attended the seminar!
Next I attended the Philly Developers Conference. There were so many incredible companies, and a variety of topics ranging from AI to the next generation of Philly tech talent.
I truly enjoyed a seminar titled “The future of work and how organizations should look at talent” by Abha Kumar from Vanguard. It was a spirited discussion regarding the challenges and opportunities of tomorrow. I’ve included an insightful slide illustrating the array of partnerships and alliances required for success in our new economy.
I closed out the week with a visit to the Drexel Student games showcase on Friday. These students are incredibly talented and energized, which is great news for the future of Philly tech.
I spent some time at the showcase speaking with Nick Leffler, who is the COO/CFO of DVNC Tech. Nick is a recent Drexel graduate who founded DVNC with his Drexel classmates. They are building amazing Virtual Reality games right here in Philly! I played a first-person shooter demo and was thoroughly impressed by the immersive experience.
DVNC is also adapting their tech to a new project with a Fortune 500 company…I know there’s more to come from this talented team.
Please feel free to share your thoughts and experiences from Tech Week 2019. If this was any indication, Philly is the place to be in tech!!
